Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Valentine Hot Water Services

Hot water work here falls into six kinds of job:

Hot Water Repairs

For a unit with life left in it, whether it has stopped tonight or started dripping:

  • Elements and thermostats on electric tanks
  • Pilot and ignition faults on gas heaters
  • Relief valves and leaking fittings
  • Fault-finding on any brand
  • A dead tank at night goes to after-hours hot water

Hot Water Replacement

When fixing it no longer makes sense:

  • Straight swaps sized to the household
  • Moving up to a heat pump unit or solar
  • A temporary tank while the new one arrives

Gas Hot Water

Storage and continuous-flow gas heaters, connected by licensed gas fitters:

  • Supply extended where the gas point is too far away
  • Storage tanks for households that use a lot at once
  • Continuous-flow heaters that heat as you draw
  • Other gas work on the gas fitting page

Heat Pump Hot Water

The low-running-cost electric choice for a house that uses plenty of hot water:

  • Draws heat from the outside air to warm the tank
  • Suits the mild lakeside winters here
  • Sizing and placement on the heat pump page

Solar Hot Water

Roof collectors and a tank, suited to a roof with good sun:

  • Priced next to a heat pump and the other options
  • Gas or electric boosting through dull spells
  • Running-cost figures you can check yourself

No Hot Water Tonight

A tank that dies after dark is an emergency call:

  • We are Available 24/7
  • The after-hours charge is stated before anyone drives out
  • A repair on the night where the tank is worth saving

Should You Repair The Unit Or Replace It?

We weigh three things with you at the unit:

How old it is

A storage tank that has passed its expected life is close to the end, and paying for a second repair on it rarely makes sense.

What broke

A burnt-out element in a sound tank is a small repair. A tank that has rusted through cannot be saved.

What it costs to run

An ageing electric tank can use more power each year than a newer system, which shifts the sums on keeping it.

If repairing is the sensible spend, you get a repair price. If the unit is done, you get a replacement price instead.

Electric Storage Hot Water

A tank with an element, found in plenty of laundries and garages. Affordable to buy, easy to service and a simple swap when it wears out. An off-peak tariff can lower the running cost where the switchboard is set up for it.

Instantaneous hot water unit fitted under a sink

Gas Hot Water Systems

A gas storage unit keeps a tank hot with a burner. A continuous-flow unit only fires when a tap opens, so there is no tank to corrode. Both are connected by a licensed gas fitter, and both handle several showers in a row.

Heat Pump Units

A heat pump pulls warmth out of the air around it and moves it into the water, much like a fridge running backwards. Frost is almost unknown here, so the unit keeps working efficiently through winter. The heat pump page covers sizing and where to put it.

Solar Hot Water

Collectors on the roof heat the water, and the booster only runs when the sun cannot keep up. Rainfall here averages 1,122 millimetres a year on area records, and the booster covers the cloudy weeks in between.

What Drives The Cost Of Hot Water Work?

With a tank drained and the laundry floor wet, a price that will not change is worth having.

Four things set it:

  • The system A like-for-like electric swap is at the lower end; a heat pump or solar system with new pipework sits higher.
  • Getting the old unit out A tank squeezed into an indoor cupboard takes longer to remove than one on a slab outside.
  • Gas work Switching from electric to gas adds a supply run, which is priced as its own item.
  • The hour Work outside business hours is charged at a higher rate that is stated first.

Big Families, Old Units And The Foreshore

Big houses use a lot of hot water

Census figures put 88.2 per cent of homes here as separate houses, and 55.7 per cent have four or more bedrooms. A household that size needs a tank sized for the morning queue, not the smallest model available.

The build era is showing

Valentine held only a small fringe of 1960s and 70s homes before the housing boom of the late 1980s, and the brick-veneer houses from then and the 1990s still hold plenty of their first hot water units. Those tanks have now outlived their expected service life, so a failure is the moment to weigh repair against replacement.

Salt air works on the outdoor gear

An outdoor tank on a waterfront block off Dilkera Avenue sits in salty lake air, so its valves and pipework corrode well ahead of a unit tucked inside a laundry.

Heat pump and solar side by side

Area-level counts record 1,369 installs of each system type, so either choice is a known quantity on this side of the lake.

The Steps Once You Book

1. Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4093 0558 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

2. A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

3. The swap or the repair

The old unit is isolated, drained and removed, the new one is set down and connected, and we run the hot taps until they flow clean.

4. Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

When we're not the right call

if the tank's power supply or the wiring behind it has failed, an electrician puts that part right. The water and gas side, from the tank and the tempering valve to the gas supply, stays with us.

What Martin Said

They looked after an issue with the hot water system for us. It turned out that the unit was faulty. To ensure hot water, they immediately replaced the unit with a temporary one.

Hot Water Questions Before You Book

Do you fit a temporary hot water tank while a replacement is on order?

Yes. A temporary tank can be connected so showers and hot taps keep working while your new unit is ordered and delivered. It is disconnected and taken away once the permanent system is running.

Is a heat pump worth it on a lakeside block?

It depends on how much hot water the house uses and where the unit can sit. Area-level counts show equal numbers of heat pump and solar installs nearby, so both are well tried. We price the two side by side and let the running costs decide.

Can you switch us from electric storage to gas hot water?

Yes, if there is gas at the property. A licensed gas fitter extends the supply to the new unit where needed, then installs a gas storage tank or a continuous-flow heater. The pipework and the heater appear as separate items on the quote.

Does the warranty cover a new hot water install?

Yes. Our 365-day warranty on all work covers the installation, and the maker's own warranty covers the unit. If the install needs another look within the year, ring the same number.
