Blocked Sewer Valentine

A blocked sewer in Valentine needs clearing as soon as you notice it, because waste that cannot leave the house will find a way out somewhere else. We film the pipe, clear the choke with the jetter or eel, and agree the price before starting. Book the plumber in Valentine day or night on (02) 4093 0558.

Plumber repairing an exposed pipe in a trench

Why Does A Sewer Block Here?

The causes on these blocks come from the ground, the trees and the kitchen:

  • Root growth pushing through a joint and snagging everything that flows past
  • Kitchen fat setting hard on the inside of the pipe over the years
  • Sand from the lakeside soil getting into older pipe and settling on the flat sections
  • A dipped length of pipe that holds water and drops its solids there

A single sluggish fixture suggests a local choke. Several at once suggest the shared sewer line, and that is when filming it pays.

How A Sewer Clear Works

Each step below is included in the fixed price:

  1. 01

    Camera in

The camera goes through the inspection opening and shows the choke, what it is made of and how far along it is.

  2. 02

    Clearing

The jetter scrubs the walls clean, or the electric eel cuts through a tougher blockage, whichever the recording calls for.

  3. 03

    Camera again

A second filmed run before we go shows the sewer flowing, so nothing is left to chance.

The recording also answers the bigger question of whether clearing will hold, or whether the pipe needs relining or a new section to keep the same choke from coming back.

What Drives The Price Of A Sewer Clear?

What changes the figure on a sewer job:

  • The distance from the opening to the choke, with a blockage near the boundary taking more hose and more time
  • What the choke is, as soft fat shifts sooner than a thick root mass
  • Whether the opening is easy to find, or buried under lawn or paving and needs digging out first
  • Any damage found once the pipe is open, which is priced separately so you can decide on it

Where These Sewer Lines Run

Groundwater close under the lawn

The blocks closest to the lake are low, and a sewer buried there runs with very little fall. Solids that settle in a flat pipe tend to stay put rather than wash through, and sand from the soil adds to the build-up.

Shade with 1860s roots

The mature trees in Valentine Park trace back to plantings around an 1860s homestead, and roots from that old shade get into ageing sewer joints on nearby blocks. Where the footage shows roots, root cutting and sealing removes them and closes the joint they used.

Late-1980s pipework

Most homes here are brick-veneer houses dating from the late 1980s onward, so many sewers have now been underground for decades, long enough for joints to loosen.

When We're Not The Right Call

The public main

A choke found in the main beyond your property line is a Hunter Water repair, and they need to hear about it from you with our footage.

Rain water, not waste water

A pit spilling over in a downpour is part of the stormwater system, which is covered on the stormwater drains page. All drain work is grouped on the blocked drains hub, and the drain camera page covers filming.

Sewer Questions, Answered Plainly

What is the difference between a blocked sewer and a blocked stormwater drain in Valentine?

The sewer takes waste from toilets, showers, the kitchen and the laundry, so a blockage shows indoors first: gurgling, several slow drains, or dirty water lifting out of the overflow gully. Stormwater only carries rain from the roof and yard, so its trouble shows outside in wet weather. Filming the line settles which one it is.

Do tree roots get into sewer lines around Valentine Park?

They can. The park holds trees going back to an 1860s homestead, and old shade like that sends roots into sewer joints on the surrounding blocks. We cut the growth out, locate on camera where it got in, and price either a section repair or a reline for that joint.

Is a sewer clearing covered by your warranty?

Yes. It carries our 365-day warranty on all work, so if the line chokes again because of something in our work, ring the same number and we return. A separate problem, like a broken length of pipe the footage reveals, is new work with its own price.

Who pays if the blockage is out in the street main?

The main sewer beyond your property line belongs to Hunter Water. If the camera places the choke in that main, fixing it is their job and not a cost to you or to us. We give you their contact details and the recording so you can report it.
